USF College of Marine Science
The University of South Florida College of Marine Science was originally a United States Merchant Marine Training Station where, from 1940 to the early 1950s, the site served as one of the largest Merchant Marine training facilities in the Southeast.
Currently, the College sits on an 11-acre waterfront campus, complete with dockage for oceanographic research vessels. The College houses 13 laboratories that support research in 4 areas of specialization: Biological, Chemical, Geological, and Physical Oceanography. Faculty and research associates bring in more than $27 million/year in research funding on a variety of topics including seafloor mapping, marine fluorescence, reef health indicators, and ocean circulation models.
The USF College of Marine Science is part of the C. W. Bill Young Marine Science Complex, which also includes the Knight Oceanographic Research Center and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Research Institute.
