Bird Steward Volunteers Needed

News Image
The beach-nesting bird season is off to an early start! Eggs are hatching at Fort DeSoto and other nearby bird sanctuaries will also see activity soon. Bird Steward volunteers are needed beginning May 19 for the regular season, which runs weekends and holidays through Labor Day. If you love spending some time on the beach, watching birds, and interacting with the public, please consider volunteering a few hours on weekends this summer to help our feathered friends have a successful nesting season.

Training is provided on site, and St. Pete Audubon supplies all the beach equipment - chairs, umbrellas, canopy, and spotting scope. Knowledge about birds is helpful, but not necessary.

For more information and to volunteer:
• Fort DeSoto, Indian Shores (and possibly Shell Key and Treasure Island), please contact Saskia Janes.
• Egmont Key, please contact Joyce Galiardo.
• Three Rooker Bar (near Honeymoon Island), please contact John Hood.
