Media invited to ceremony certifying water-conserving home

On Friday, February 12, the Southwest Florida Water Management District will certify the first home in Hernando County to meet the criteria of the Florida Water StarSM Gold program.

The District has partnered with Diamond Construction to certify the home in Hernando County's Riverdale neighborhood as part of the Florida Water Star Gold program. This voluntary certification program for builders encourages water efficiency in household appliances, plumbing fixtures, irrigation systems and landscapes....

Because the house is located on the Withlacoochee River, water quality protection was also an important consideration. Special care was taken during construction to ensure there would be no damage to the river. The landscaping is designed as a preserve setting, with natural plants dominating the site.
