Gulfport Beach Waterfront Complex
Get your groove on in Gulfport, a funky little community on Boca Ciega Bay that enjoys a strong regional reputation as an artists’ hangout. Be sure to visit the Art Village Courtyard. Situated on Beach Boulevard (which, along with Shore Boulevard, is a must-see street), the village houses artists and artisans selling their wares. Its courtyard is home to regular open microphone nights and Saturday fresh markets.
For avid boaters, the Gulfport Municipal Marina is convenient to inland waters and the open waters of the Gulf. The town is home to Stetson University College of Law, Florida’s first law school, as well as the Historic Gulfport Casino, a hopping place for Latin, swing, salsa and traditional ballroom dance. Gulfport Art Walks on the first Friday and third Saturday of every month bring out the artists and art lovers.
To get your bearings in this eclectic town, take a free half-hour tour on the Gulfport Trolley. Slightly farther afield, find the Gulf beaches, downtown St. Petersburg and more accommodations, restaurants and shopping.
