Wildlife Report for
04-01 - Crystal Lake
2/8/2008
Anamarie and I visited Crystal Court pond of Feb. 8, 2008. The pond has changed quite remarkably from our first visit several years ago. Most of the aquatics look good. The Walter's Viburnum that we planted has grown tremendously and is in flower. There was a small gator living in the pond.
We were dissapointed to see that landscapers had removed all of the perrenial peanut and replaced it with turf grass. In Florida, turf requires fetilizer and pesticides to keep it looking good. The point in replacing turf is to reduce these types of inputs onto ponds. There is also some algae growing in the pond, but with a little maintenance, and barring any major fertilizer input events, should be manageable. There is some torpedo grass growing into the lake. Without removal, it will become a problem.
